AI overload
Sometimes when something interesting is released, I’m struck less by how cool it is, but more by how everyone wants to be the first to talk about it, to shout about what it can do, how it will change everything, and of course, tips and tricks to make it work even better.
It’s very human to want to be among the first to discover something.
The next amazing band, the next cult tv hit, a fantastic typeface no one is using yet, a far and distant land or a widely out-of-the-way but brilliant idea. And as generative AI tech keeps growing exponentially fast, there will be more and more hype about what’s this week’s good good, and what is played out. Mix that with more people needing to come up with content for their blogs, reels, TikToks, YouTube channels and so on, the voices are getting louder and screaming the same things at you, until they will drone each other out.
Feel free to tune it all out.
Keep your head down and don’t think you need to keep up with every new tool, every new update, every new way to generate the latest, coolest, best, greatest way to input or output text, images, video, code or anything. There is enough “next groundbreaking generative AI launch” to go around.
Get comfortable with the tools you’re already exploring.
Find the ones you like and then learn how to work with them. Get familiar with new features as they are released, on your own time. Don’t feel like you need to do it all, or try every new thing. Unless your job is to try and review new generative tools, you don’t need to know what they all do, or what the differences are. And that’s fine. Growing mad skillz with what’s out there today will go much farther than chasing all the latest gimmicks.
Keeping up with everything that’s going on with generative AI can be exhausting. It’s understandable that some might even reject generative AI fully because it’s just too much hype. Others might just give up after dipping a toe in because of the relentless OMG HAVE YOU SEEN WHAT THAT NEW THING DOES can make one feel like they are back at the beginning of the learning curve every time the latest and greatest gets talked about.
It’s important you join the conversation at your agency - but it’s also ok to take a break.
This whole site is an invitation to go and play and explore to see for yourself what it can do, and form your own opinion. But it’s also important to know when to tune out. There are going to be more and more products promising to be the answer to all your generative needs. The generative AI corner of the world is growing insanely fast. AIs are training other AIs at speeds no human can possibly keep up with.
That’s okay, you don’t NEED to keep up. When it feels like too much, unplug. Go for a walk, listen to one of those hipster indie rock bands that no one else has probably heard of yet or discover a far and distant land, and don’t worry…
